STEP 1: Initial Investigation: What do Interpreters do?

The following websites will explain what interpreters do. As you read:
- Make a list of 15 skills or pieces of knowledge an interpreter must have or know. Each item must be written in a complete sentence. Email this list to your teacher.

What’s the difference between an interpreter and a translator? Briefly skim this page on the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics website.

The section called “Nature of the Work” is the only section you need to look at, but feel free to read as much of this page as you would like. The sections called “Job Outlook” and “Earnings” will tell you if jobs are available, and how much interpreters earn on an annual basis.
