STEP 5: Apply for a Job!

This is the final step of this WebQuest. You will work independently. You will choose one of the two job descriptions you worked with in Step 4, and you will pretend to apply for the job. You will email your teacher all of your application materials, including a cover letter and your fictional resume. You may make revisions to your resume if the revisions will improve your overall job application.

When applying for a job, a job applicant sends the employer his or her resume and a cover letter. The cover letter is a persuasive letter that describes all of the reasons why the candidate is the ideal person to take the job.

In the cover letter you write a persuasive letter explaining in your own words why you are the perfect candidate for the job. In order to write a very good letter, you need to think about the job from the perspective of the employer. Consider the needs of the employer, and the characteristics of the company that may not be directly related to the interpreting position.

Format:
- Include at least three separate paragraphs.
- The letter must reference the work experience in your resume and highlight the skills you listed in your resume.
- In your first paragraph, be sure to mention the title of the position and the name of the company.
- The cover letter must be one page in length, single-spaced and typed in Times font, size 12pt. Margins must not exceed 1 inch.

NOTE: Use the evaluation tool in this WebQuest to guide you as you write your resume. To view the evaluation tool click on “4.Evaluation”.
